On August 27, 2025, during the 23rd International Congress of Nutrition (IUNS-ICN 2025) held in Paris, France, a symposium titled Asian Dietary Patterns and Chronic Disease Prevention and Management, was successfully organized by the Chinese Nutrition Society (CNS) and the Federation of Asian Nutrition Societies (FANS).
The symposium was co-chaired by Professor YANG Yuexin, President of CNS and Chairman of FANS, and Professor E Siong Tee, Vice Chairman of FANS. Over 200 scholars from various countries gathered to discuss the value of Asian dietary patterns in preventing and controlling chronic diseases. With the high incidence of non-communicable diseases globally, exploring dietary patterns that are more suitable for Asian populations, represented by China, and capable of serving as a demonstration worldwide, has become an important task for the Asian nutrition community.
The symposium focused on the research progress and practical experience of dietary patterns in countries such as China, Singapore, and Indonesia. The reports covered a wide range of cutting-edge topics, including epidemiological evidence of healthy dietary patterns in Jiangnan and southeast coastal regions of China, the modern transformation of traditional dietary wisdom, and the relationship between metabolic syndrome and dietary structure. By combining the latest scientific evidence with Asian dietary cultures, the symposium highlighted the crucial role of Asian diets in promoting health. In particular, the Eastern Dietary Patterns, proposed in the Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents (2022) based on traditional Chinese dietary habits and population health evidence, drew significant attention from participants.
The symposium further demonstrated that, the introduction of the Eastern Dietary Patterns concept is not only a scientific achievement but also an important contribution to the international health community. The symposium not only introduced the content and evidence of the Eastern Dietary Patterns to various countries but also laid a solid foundation for collaborative research and policy initiatives among Asian countries.
