Under the Healthy China background, the China government has issued policies such as the Healthy China 2030 Plan and the Implementation Plan for Childhood and Adolescent Obesity Prevention and Control. The Three Reductions and Three Healthy Conditions campaign further underscores these efforts.

In response, the Chinese Nutrition Society, the National Institute for Nutrition and Health, China CDC, Institute of Food and Nutrition Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, China Agricultural University, West China School of Public Health, Sichuan University, the Shanghai Institute for Pediatric Research, and other leading institutions began the study of the Nutrient Profile Model for China Scientific Report Project in October 2021, support by UNICEF. This NP model aims to prevent and reduce childhood overweight and obesity. The project systematically analyzes pre-packaged food nutrition labeling in China market, collect and study the international NP models, such as WHO, North America, Europe, Mexico, etc. and integrates Chinese dietary patterns and consumer behaviors to establish a scientific and adaptable NP model system. Finally, the China NP Model has been successfully developed and Nutrient Profile Model for China-Scientific Report has been published.
