On September 21, coinciding with the 17th China Nutrition Science Congress, the Chinese Nutrition Society (CNS) held a grand ceremony to commemorate its 80th anniversary. The event was filled with a festive atmosphere, attended by nearly 3,000 nutrition professionals, with senior scholars in the field of nutrition invited to the gathering.
Professor YANG Yuexin, President of the CNS, delivered a keynote speech titled A Review of the Chinese Nutrition Society’s Work and Achievements in Disciplinary Development Over the Past 80 Years. She systematically reviewed the glorious journey from the discipline’s origins, the establishment of the CNS, to its vigorous development and academic leadership, and fondly recalled the arduous yet innovative endeavors of generations of nutrition professionals. Amidst warm applause, Professor YANG announced the Top Ten Achievements in Nutritional Science Research in China (please refer to the appendix for details), comprehensively showcasing the historical contributions and significant breakthroughs in the field of nutritional science in China.
The conference specially invited veteran nutrition scholars, including Professor GE Keyou, Professor CHENG Yiyong, Professor GUO Junsheng, Professor SU Yixiang, Professor XIA Yiming, Professor TANG Yi, Professor HUANG Chengyu, and Professor ZHOU Ling, to the venue to jointly witness the 80 years of development in nutritional science and accept floral tributes from young scholars.
At this historic moment marking the 80th anniversary of the establishment of CNS, to commemorate the founder of the discipline, Professor WU Xian, promote scientific spirit, and drive innovation in nutritional science and technology in China, the CNS, upon decision by the Standing Council and with the consent of Professor WU Xian’s relatives, established the WU Xian Nutrition Award. Professor YANG Yuexin, President of the CNS, Professor LIU Depei from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor MA Aiguo, Vice President of the CNS, and Professor Albert Wu, a family member of Professor WU Xian, jointly unveiled the award. Professor Albert WU, as the representative of the relatives, shared the life story and academic contributions of Professor WU Xian.
Subsequently, at a symposium commemorating the 128th birthday of Professor WU Xian, Professor YANG Yuexin, Academician LIU Depei, Professor Albert Wu, and other Council members of CNS gathered to recall and honor the scientific spirit and outstanding contributions of Professor WU Xian.
